Engineers are ultimately valued for what they can create and deliver in the world: products, systems, services, and infrastructure that work reliably, safely, and responsibly. This theme asks how engineering education can better connect what students learn to what engineers do—linking engineering practice not only with technical design but also with decision-making, teamwork, communication, ethics, and an understanding of context. We welcome work that makes these connections explicit in curricula, labs, projects, and authentic assessment, and that shows how students develop the capability to move from analysis to action. The focus is not only on producing graduates who know engineering, but on educating engineers who can make things that matter, under real constraints and with real consequences. If engineering is ultimately about making things work in the world, are we simply producing engineers with degrees, or educating engineers who can make things work and have an impact on society?
